Dear Reference Group Members

We would like your help please!

We would like to be sure that the Reference Group is reaching as many third sector organisations dealing with children and young people in Cumbria as possible and are therefore embarking on a drive to raise awareness of the Group and to encourage a wider membership across the county. We would therefore ask you, if possible, to share the message below to one other organisation (or more if you can!) - *you can use the share buttons on this page to send to social media too)

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cumbria Children and Young People’s Voluntary Sector Reference Group was set up almost 12 years ago to provide co-ordinated third sector engagement with our partners in statutory services and to ensure the voice and representation of the third sector (children, young people and families) on key strategic decision making boards and working groups like the Children’s Trust Board and the Cumbria Local Safeguarding Board and to develop joint working for the benefit of our clients and service users.

The other key role this group plays is to ensure the sector is kept up to date with developments, good practice and the sharing of resources and information to assist decision making. The group is currently Co-chaired by Cath Clarke of Cumbria Youth Alliance and Pam Hutton of East Cumbria Family Support Centre who were elected to this joint position in 2015. The group is currently funded via Cumbria Youth Alliance thanks to support from CVS from the Cumbria County Council contract and other local funders.

The group meets around 6 times a year at the Penrith Methodist Church from 1.30 till 4.00 and dates of upcoming meetings are on our website. We have key speakers from the Statutory Services and from within the third sector to cover a wide range of topics: What’s new – what is happening- what the needs of children, young people and families are – where the opportunities are and to develop and encourage partnership working.

This group also elects representatives onto a range of key strategic tables and the representatives report back to this meeting on key developments so that you can keep up to date with the wider children and young people’s agenda without having to attend every meeting in your locality or at a County Level.. We have our own website at where all the latest news is posted

You can receive regular information from within the group and if you a member you can share your information with the wider group

We would like to invite you along to the next meeting of the Cumbria Children and Young People’s Voluntary Sector Reference Group which will be held on Tuesday 8th of November at 1.30 in Penrith Methodist Church where we will have a range of key speakers from within the sector and you can share information from your organisation or your locality. Anyone who works in the third sector with children or young people is welcome to attend our meetings and we have members from all types and sizes of organisations.

If you work for an organisation whose turnover is less than £250,000 you can claim a meeting allowance to help towards the cost of attending. If you can't attend the next meeting but would like to join our mailing list to be kept up to date with news and dates of future meetings, please contact our administrator.

Can you afford not to be part of this group ?
