Miscellaneous Information:

CADAS' primary objective is to enhance the lives of people in Cumbria through the prevention and reduction of harm and risk caused to them by the use or misuse of alcohol and drugs, by providing them with opportunities to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

We have offices in Carlisle, Workington, Barrow and Kendal. We work with people from 8 upwards. We provide:

  • 1-1 therapeutic support delivered by volunteers, for those who are struggling with their alcohol or drug use.
  • STARS – An alcohol education and 1-1 service for young people aged 11-25.
  • A parent/carer/family support service, for anyone affected by someone else’s substance use.
  • A nutrition and lifestyle service (Barrow only).
  • Black box treatment (light electrical stimulation on acu-pressure points, which reduces cravings, anxiety, pain and promotes relaxation and general rebalancing in the body). This is available for people accessing any of our services.
  • Drug and alcohol information courses.
  • Understanding and working with addictive behaviour courses. (This is the 18 week course people have to complete and pass in order to become a volunteer for us).
  • Training for other organizations.
  • Regular supervision for volunteers.
